Led by Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, President of the Sindh People’s Party, hundreds of workers staged a protest sit-in in Thatta against the six controversial canals. During the protest held at the Dhoolah Darya Bridge, participants vehemently chanted slogans and rejected the canal project.
The protest sit-in was attended by MNA Sadiq Memon, Provincial Minister Muhammad Ali Malkani, and other leaders, along with a large number of male and female workers. The People’s Party announced the launch of a movement against the canal project.
Nisar Khuhro declared that in the second phase, protest sit-ins and demonstrations would be held at the tehsil level across Sindh. After April 4, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will hold protest rallies at the divisional level against the canals.
Nisar Khuhro clarified that the People’s Party’s movement would continue until the federal government announces the withdrawal of the project for the six canals, including the Cholistan Canal.
Sadiq Memon stated that the local people in Cholistan are also protesting against the canal, and this project could weaken the federation. He emphasized that it is time to unite on the issue of Sindh’s survival.
Provincial Minister Muhammad Ali Malkani said that there is a conspiracy to deprive the people of Sindh of the Indus River’s water, pushing them towards destruction. During the protest sit-in, a resolution was passed rejecting the projects of the six canals, including the Cholistan Canal.
