PCSIR Conducts Groundbreaking Hemp Research Work

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Khalid Hussain Magsi praised the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) for its innovative work on hemp-based products during a visit to the PCSIR Laboratories Complex in Lahore on July 1, 2025.

Dr. Quratulain Syed, Director General of PCSIR, briefed the minister on the organization’s key research and development projects across its ten primary research facilities. Magsi toured a display area showcasing locally developed technologies in various sectors, including pharmaceuticals, food processing, chemical production, biotechnology, laboratory apparatus, and energy conservation devices.

He also visited the Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC) where he examined the ‘Patent Wall’ and learned about PCSIR”s endeavors in technology commercialization.

The minister particularly commended PCSIR”s leading-edge research into hemp product development, spanning diverse applications from food and cosmetics to medicines and sustainable building materials.

He recognized the substantial economic and environmental potential of these products and pledged governmental backing for research-driven innovation. The anticipated issuance of licenses for manufacturing hemp-based products is poised to deliver national advantages.
