LARKANA: The Young Doctors Association (YDA) in Larkana went on pen down strike on the second day on Tuesday in Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH), due to which poor patients from remote areas and nearby villages were left at the mercy of their creator.
The leader of the YDA, Dr. Fazal Qadir Khoso, Dr. Irshad Mugheri, Dr. Raja Lockair, Dr. Faheem Khushk and others said while talking to the media that the relatives of the woman who died due to snakebite 3 days ago manhandled duty doctors mercilessly over an allegation of not providing treatment to the snake bite girl.
They said that the accusations have been made against us while thousands of patients come to us every day to whom we doctors provide treatment, and when the patient dies, we doctors are always blamed by the relatives and the heirs for negligence, which is completely unjust.
They said that the district administration has not so far been able to solve our legitimate demand for provision of security till now. They warned that if security is not provided to us, we will take leave for an indefinite period and the consequences will be on the shoulders of the rulers.
Meanwhile, a visit to the hospital showed that emergency patients were provided medical treatment and all other departments including pathological laboratory and radiology were locked. Patients were running from pillar to post to get medical treatment but nobody examined them as the OPD block was also locked.
Over 2500 patients of many districts are regularly visiting CMCH for treatment of their various ailments and free available medicines are supplied to them despite the fact that Rural Health Centers, Basic Health Units and Taluka Headquarter Hospitals are working in their respective areas but they always complain that proper doctors are unavailable and medicines have to be procured by them from the open market hence not supplied by the hospitals.
The Sindh Health Department must gear up PPHI to make all the THQs, BHUs and RHUs functional immediately and ensure provision of free medicines to the patients or else the needy poor ailing populace will continue to suffer for no fault of theirs at all.
