PARC’s PATCO Seeds Secures Enterprise Status, Poised to Enhance National Seed Sector

In a significant stride for Pakistan’s agricultural sector, “PATCO Seeds,” an undertaking by the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), today officially received accreditation as a Seed Business Enterprise from the National Seed Development and Regulatory Authority (NSDRA). This pivotal development is anticipated to fortify the nation”s seed industry and increase the availability of premium quality seeds for farmers nationwide.

Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, has been instrumental in this transformation, demonstrating unwavering leadership and dedication to modernising Pakistan”s farming sector. His focus on innovation, regulatory improvements, and greater private sector involvement has been key.

The Minister articulated that the endorsement of PATCO Seeds represents a crucial step towards making Pakistan’s agriculture a modern, robust, and globally competitive industry. He reiterated the government”s commitment to empowering national bodies, including PARC, to deliver cutting-edge solutions directly to cultivators and ensure long-term food security for the country.

Guided by the Minister”s direction, PARC has implemented strategic programmes to reinforce institutional structures, foster public-private collaborations, and attract investment into agri-business ventures. These efforts are designed to bridge the chasm between agricultural research and its practical, commercial deployment.

The approval of PATCO Seeds highlights PARC”s ongoing dedication to converting scientific research into tangible commercial achievements. Operating as a certified Seed Business Enterprise, PATCO Seeds is now strategically positioned to play a transformative role in the production, processing, and dissemination of certified seeds, thereby contributing to improved crop yields and national food security.

Chairman PARC, Dr. Syed Murtaza Hassan Andrabi, lauded this progression, characterising it as a monumental achievement in PARC’s journey towards research commercialisation. He emphasised that PATCO Seeds will establish a vital connection between advanced agricultural scientific inquiry and its practical implementation at the farm level, ultimately benefiting growers throughout the country.

PATCO Seeds plans to concentrate on ensuring the commercial supply of superior, climate-resilient, and high-yielding seed varieties, specifically adapted for Pakistan’s diverse agro-ecological regions. This initiative is projected to boost agricultural output, strengthen rural economies, and generate new employment prospects.

Amidst contemporary challenges such as climate change, food insecurity, and escalating population figures, the Federal Minister’s visionary outlook, coupled with PARC’s innovative projects like PATCO Seeds, reflects the Government’s resolve to cultivate a resilient, sustainable, and self-sufficient agricultural domain.
