Pakistan has successfully secured consensus in the United Nations General Assembly’s Fifth Committee, leading to the adoption of a financing resolution on revised estimates addressing Islamophobia.
During the closing meeting of the first part of the 79th UNGA session, Jibran Khan Durrani, First Secretary at the Pakistan Mission, conveyed appreciation to the OIC member states, G77, China, and other partners for their cooperation in reaching a consensual resolution. Pakistan spearheaded the negotiations as a principal negotiator in the committee discussions.
The resolution mandates the establishment of the Office of the Special Envoy on Combating Islamophobia, set to commence operations from the 1st of next month.
