ISLAMABAD:At the United Nations, Pakistan has warned against inaction in combating growing acts of desecrating the Holy Quran. Speaking at UN Human Rights Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN offices in Geneva, Khalil Hashmi said such public actions are not an expression of free speech. They are an affront to our common humanity and human dignity.
Meanwhile, UN Human Rights Council is heading towards a vote on a Pakistani draft resolution calling for holding accountable the perpetrators of desecrating the holy texts, according to a Radio Pakistan’s report. Earlier at this council, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has also called for an urgent and serious conversation on prevention, deterrence, accountability and redressal measures.
