Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has strongly denounced an attack launched by the Afghan Taliban on Pakistani territory, labeling the targeting of civilians by Afghan forces a “blatant violation of international norms” and a deeply regrettable act.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the Chairman commended the Pakistan Army and security personnel for their timely and effective counteraction, stating they demonstrated “utmost professionalism, resolve, and bravery” in successfully neutralizing the hostile intentions.
“Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national dignity are non-negotiable,” Gilani asserted. He added that the armed forces have once again lived up to the nation’s expectations by setting an example of courage and patriotism.
He reaffirmed that the Parliament and the people of Pakistan stand united with the country’s defenders and are prepared to make every sacrifice for the protection of the motherland. Any act of aggression from Afghanistan, he cautioned, poses a serious threat to regional peace and stability.
“Pakistan desires peace,” the Chairman emphasized, “but it will defend its borders at all costs.” Rejecting what he called “baseless allegations and false propaganda” from Afghanistan, Gilani said Pakistan’s military remains fully prepared to safeguard the nation’s frontiers under all circumstances.
