Pakistan has finalized a strategic plan to increase its meat exports to Malaysia to $200 million over the next three to five years, a monumental leap from the current annual trade valued at just $38,000.
According to an official report today, the definitive business plan was presented during a high-level meeting in the capital, which was jointly chaired by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan, Federal Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain, and Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan.
In a significant policy decision, Haroon Akhtar Khan announced that the halal meat sector will be granted official industry status to help achieve the target. He stated this move is expected to increase exports and strengthen Pakistan’s economy, commending the collaborative efforts that produced an “efficient business framework for meat exports.”
To ensure the products meet international regulations, modern slaughterhouses will be established in accordance with Malaysian standards. Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain said this development is crucial for facilitating compliance and strengthening the nation”s trade potential.
The initiative, part of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s economic vision, was praised for its cooperative development. Federal Minister Jam Kamal Khan highlighted that the “package is the result of collective efforts and consensus among all concerned sectors.”
