The Ambassador of Turkiye to Pakistan, Irfan Neziroglu, called on Senator Irfan ul Haque Siddique, Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, here in Islamabad on Thursday.
During the meeting, both dignitaries held an in-depth discussion on the current state and future trajectory of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Turkiye. Key areas of focus included inter-parliamentary cooperation, diplomatic engagement, and emerging regional and global dynamics.
Senator Siddique reiterated Pakistan’s deep-rooted ties with Turkiye, terming the relationship as one founded on shared history, cultural bonds, and mutual trust. He also acknowledged the strong personal and political relationship between the leadership of his party and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Ambassador Neziroglu expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and highlighted the nearly 100-year-old historic friendship between the two nations. He emphasized the need to take bilateral cooperation to new heights.
Touching on recent international concerns, Senator Siddique strongly condemned what he described as India’s coercive actions and negative media campaigns against Turkish companies. He termed these actions as regrettable attempts to weaponize trade for political purposes.
Both sides also voiced grave concern over the ongoing genocide in Gaza by Israeli forces, denouncing the killing of innocent civilians, including women and children. They jointly called upon the United Nations and the international community to act urgently to halt the bloodshed. They pledged to continue raising their voices at all global forums to advocate for peace, justice, and human rights.
Senator Siddique further stressed the importance of expanding cooperation in defence, security, education, trade, and cultural exchange – especially in promoting traditional arts like calligraphy, which both countries hold dear.
The meeting also touched on recent regional developments, including the rising tensions between Pakistan and India. Senator Siddique thanked the Turkish government for its steadfast support and solidarity with Pakistan during difficult times.
Concluding the meeting, both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and building upon the historical and brotherly partnership between Pakistan and Turkiye.
