Pakistan and Tajikistan today pledged to enhance defense and security cooperation, emphasizing expanded collaboration in military training and intelligence sharing to counter regional threats of terrorism and extremism. The agreement was reached during a meeting here between Pakistan”s Chairman Senate, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, and the Chairman of Tajikistan”s Assembly of Representatives, Mr. Fayzali Idizoda.

During the discussions, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to fortifying the deep-rooted historical and cultural bonds between the two nations, which they noted are founded on mutual respect and shared aspirations for regional peace and prosperity.

Chairman Senate Gilani highlighted the importance of strengthening inter-parliamentary linkages to promote mutual understanding and trust. Both leaders agreed on the value of regular interactions between their respective parliamentary committees and friendship groups to exchange legislative experiences and best practices.

The officials underscored the need for continued joint efforts through regional platforms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to ensure lasting stability.

Economically, Mr. Gilani stressed the need to deepen trade relations, with a particular focus on key sectors including textiles, agriculture, industry, and energy. He noted the strong coordination between the two countries at international forums like the SCO and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

In a significant diplomatic gesture, Chairman Senate Gilani extended a formal invitation to Mr. Idizoda to attend the upcoming Inter-Parliamentary Speakers” Conference (ISC). The event, hosted by the Senate of Pakistan, is scheduled to take place in Islamabad from November 10-12, 2025.

Mr. Gilani stated that the conference will serve as a vital platform for dialogue on regional peace, security, and development, aiming to further reinforce parliamentary and intergovernmental partnerships.

The leaders also discussed expanding educational and cultural linkages to foster closer ties between the youth of both countries. Chairman Senate Gilani concluded by appreciating Tajikistan”s constructive role in promoting stability and prosperity across Central Asia.
