Pakistan and Syria today agreed to establish a Joint Working Group (JWG) to bolster agricultural collaboration, signaling a strengthening of bilateral ties.

Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, and Syrian Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Ramez Alraee, met in Islamabad today to discuss enhancing cooperation in agriculture, commerce, and cultural exchange, reaffirming the strong relationship between the two nations.

Minister Hussain emphasized the historical, cultural, and religious connections between Pakistan and Syria, providing a solid base for collaboration across various sectors. He highlighted agriculture as a particularly promising area for cooperation, with Pakistan keen to expand trade and technical partnership with Syria.

Hussain referenced a previously signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on agricultural cooperation, laying the groundwork for long-term collaboration in agricultural research, technology exchange, and food security. He noted that once international sanctions against Syria are eased, the nation will become a key trading associate for Pakistan in agricultural products like grains, fruits, and processed goods.

The JWG will explore practical collaborative avenues, including contemporary farming techniques, water resource administration, skill development, and agricultural trade facilitation. Minister Hussain stressed Pakistan”s willingness to provide expertise and technical assistance to Syria in modern agriculture and food security plans. He suggested such initiatives would not only enhance two-way trade but also contribute to sustainable growth and prosperity in the area.

Ambassador Alraee expressed gratitude for Pakistan”s ongoing support and welcomed the JWG proposal, assuring Syria”s commitment to close collaboration in mutually beneficial areas.

Minister Hussain concluded by reaffirming Pakistan”s view of Syria as a significant regional partner and expressed determination to broaden the scope of cooperation, ensuring the continued growth of the nations’ close relationship.
