A Pakistani delegation, led by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Foreign Affairs Ambassador Syed Tariq Fatemi and SAPM on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan, met with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk in Moscow on Thursday to discuss bilateral relations and regional matters. The revitalization of the Pakistan Steel Mills in Karachi was a key point of discussion, with Khan emphasizing its significance as a symbol of future cooperation.

Fatemi conveyed greetings from Pakistani leadership and underscored Pakistan”s prioritization of its relationship with Russia, viewing it as a stabilizing force globally. The two nations explored collaboration in various sectors, including politics, trade, economics, energy, connectivity, industry, and agriculture.

Akhtar highlighted Pakistan”s investmentfriendly industrial policies and macroeconomic stability. Overchuk, recalling his 2024 visits to Pakistan, affirmed President Putin”s regard for Pakistan as a crucial partner in regional economic and energy development.

Connectivity initiatives, like the planned railway link between Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and Russia, and the upcoming pilot cargo train launch, were also discussed. Regional and global concerns, encompassing South Asia, Afghanistan, the Middle East, and bilateral cooperation within multilateral forums, were also addressed.

Overchuk conveyed President Putin”s strong support for expanded collaboration with Pakistan across key sectors. He also noted Putin”s anticipation of meeting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during the SCO Council of Heads of State in Tianjin, China, later in August.
