Pakistan Reaffirms Support for Kashmiris’ Struggle for Self-Determination

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting the Kashmiri people in their pursuit of the right to self-determination. They pledged continued political, diplomatic, and moral support, aligning with longstanding national policy on the matter.

According to Radio Pakistan, the statements were made in conjunction with Kashmiris’ Right to Self-Determination Day. This day marks the seventy-sixth anniversary of a pivotal United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan resolution. The resolution guarantees a free and fair plebiscite in the region of Jammu and Kashmir, which remains a point of contention between India and Pakistan.

In his address, President Zardari highlighted India’s prolonged denial of self-determination to the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He accused India of subjecting the region’s inhabitants to ongoing oppression, violence, and systematic brutalities over the past seven decades.

Prime Minister Sharif’s message underscored the necessity for the international community, including the United Nations, to fulfill their commitments. He called for significant actions to address the longstanding issue, emphasizing the global responsibility to uphold the promises made to the Kashmiri people.
