Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to Defend Saudi Arabia Amid Ongoing Houthi Attacks

Islamabad:Pakistan and several other countries have repeatedly urged the Houthis to cease their attacks on Saudi Arabia, but these assaults continue. Under the Makkah Agreement, both Pakistan and Turkiye have pledged their support to Saudi defense efforts.

According to Radio Pakistan, Pakistan and Turkiye have agreed to defend Saudi Arabia, with reciprocation expected in the event of an attack on either country. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized Pakistan's steadfast dedication to safeguarding Saudi Arabia's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security during a meeting with retired Lieutenant General Nauman Mahmood, the first Secretary General of the Makkah Defense Alliance.

Pakistan has already deployed military forces in Saudi Arabia, and the extent of Pakistan and Turkiye's involvement in Saudi defense is contingent upon Saudi Arabia's requests. There is concern that foreign forces might attempt to entangle both Pakistan and Turkiye in a broader regional conflict, urging caution in their approaches.

Efforts for peace continue, as Pakistan has historically worked to mediate in the regional tensions involving Iran, the US, and Israel, achieving a temporary ceasefire. With Israel seeking to broaden the conflict between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Turkiye, Iran, and other nations are actively pursuing a peace agreement between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis. There is optimism for a potential deal, as Tehran, Ankara, and Riyadh share a unified perspective on resolving the conflict, which could lead to lasting peace in the Gulf region.
