Pakistan Railways hikes fares

Pakistan Railways today announced one percent to two percent fare increase for all trains from tomorrow.

According to a report, Pakistan Railways said that fares would be increased by one percent for all mail, express, intercity, and passenger trains, including outsourced services.

The fares for all freight trains have been increased by two percent. Meanwhile, Pakistan Railways has collected an amount of over 76 million rupees from ticket-less passengers in a crackdown during the last six months. The rise in the fares was announced despite the PR earned robust revenue in the last financial year.

It may be noted that on 30th June, the Pakistan Railways posted a record revenue of Rs88 billion for the fiscal year 2023-24, ending on June 30, with 40pc more income compared to the last fiscal year. The increase in revenue came over the steps taken for improvement in cargo and public services.
