Pakistan Pledges Commitment To Sustainable Agri-Food Systems

Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, represented Pakistan at the 44th Session of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Conference in Rome, pledging the nation’s dedication to building sustainable and inclusive agri-food systems.

Addressing international delegates, Minister Hussain reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to tackling hunger, malnutrition, and poverty through national reforms aimed at modernizing the agricultural sector.

He outlined Pakistan”s ongoing efforts to improve food safety, foster innovation, diversify crops, and empower smallholder farm owners. These initiatives, he explained, aim to establish a more equitable and resilient food structure, improving nutrition and livelihoods while ensuring long-term food security for all citizens.

The Minister acknowledged the global nature of food security and environmental sustainability, stressing the importance of international collaboration. He highlighted Pakistan”s commitment to knowledge sharing and aligning with global best practices to contribute to global food governance and resilience.

Mr. Hussain also noted Pakistan”s participation in the election of the new FAO Council leadership, congratulating the elected officials and expressing confidence in their ability to guide the organization. He assured continued Pakistani support for the FAO”s governance and agenda.

He reiterated Pakistan”s dedication to collaborating with the FAO and other development partners to enhance food systems through policy adjustments, capacity building, and adaptable farming methods. He acknowledged the support of organizations like FAO, WFP, and IFAD in implementing programs to address food insecurity, improve nutrition, and tackle climate change vulnerabilities.

Finally, Minister Hussain urged the international community to strengthen cooperation in addressing escalating food system difficulties, emphasizing the collective responsibility to build sustainable and resilient agri-food systems for coming generations.
