The Pakistan Navy has significantly demonstrated its air-defence capability and operational readiness by successfully test-firing a surface-to-air missile in the complex maritime environment of the North Arabian Sea.
A statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Monday confirmed the Live Weapon Firing (LWF) exercise. The event featured the launch of an FM-90 (N) Extended Range missile from a naval vessel, which precisely intercepted and destroyed a highly manoeuvrable aerial target.
This successful engagement reaffirms the Navy’s formidable war-fighting capability and high state of combat preparedness. The firepower demonstration was personally observed by the Commander Pakistan Fleet, who was present onboard a fleet unit at sea.
The Commander lauded the professionalism, dedication, and exceptional operational standards displayed by the officers and sailors involved. He reiterated the Pakistan Navy’s unwavering resolve to safeguard the nation’s seaward frontiers and protect its maritime interests under all circumstances.
The FM-90(N) ER is a sophisticated naval defense system designed to protect warships from a range of airborne threats, including enemy aircraft, drones, and anti-ship cruise missiles.
Such live-fire exercises at sea are a critical measure of deterrence and readiness in Pakistan’s maritime domain. They provide an invaluable opportunity to test the integration of radar tracking, command-and-control systems, and crew response under realistic operational conditions.
