In a significant diplomatic meeting, Pakistan and Iran committed to fasttracking the resolution of the IranPakistan gas pipeline project through mutual consultations.
The development emerged during discussions between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and President of Iran Dr Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran.
Prime Minister Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s aim to enhance bilateral trade and strengthen commercial ties with Iran. He expressed gratitude to Iran for its concern during Pakistan’s recent conflict with India and its offer to mediate for peace.
Highlighting the historical ties between the two nations, Sharif pledged to deepen relations with Iran. He stressed the importance of cooperation to combat terrorism, recognizing its threat to regional stability and the influence of external actors.
The leaders also discussed the Jammu and Kashmir issue, with Sharif emphasizing its resolution in line with UNSC resolutions as vital for regional peace.
President Pezeshkian assured Sharif of Iran’s commitment to regional stability. The meeting underscored the importance of peace in Afghanistan for broader regional security. Sharif condemned Israeli actions in Gaza and supported a twostate solution, urging an end to what he called genocidal policies.
The Prime Minister, accompanied by key officials, received a guard of honor and engaged in delegationlevel talks, further cementing the cooperative spirit between the neighboring countries.
