Pakistan, Iran exchange 12 agreements, MoUs

Pakistan and Iran solidified their commitment to stronger bilateral relations by signing 12 agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) spanning various sectors.

The signing ceremony took place in Islamabad on Sunday, witnessed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian. The accords cover a wide range of cooperative endeavors, including plant health and quarantine measures, shared utilization of the Mirjaveh-Taftan border crossing, and joint efforts in science, technology, and innovation.

Further areas of collaboration encompass information and communications technology, cultural exchange initiatives, tourism promotion, youth engagement, media partnerships, and trade facilitation. The nations also pledged to work together on meteorology, climatology, and disaster management.

Agreements concerning maritime safety, firefighting, and judicial assistance in criminal matters were also formalized. Additionally, the countries signed a supplemental MoU related to a 2013 air services agreement and an MoU on product certification and testing. The two nations also agreed to promote tourism between 2025 and 2027 and issued a joint ministerial statement expressing their intention to finalize a Free Trade Agreement.
