Pakistan and Iran today reached an agreement to resume the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul (ITI) train service before the end of the year, a landmark decision aimed at bolstering regional connectivity and cross-border commerce.
The consensus was reached during a meeting in the capital between Federal Minister for Railways, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, and the Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Reza Amiri Moghaddam.
Discussions also centered on reinforcing bilateral ties, with both officials expressing satisfaction over the sustained goodwill and positive engagement between the two nations. The meeting, also attended by Iranian Commercial Counsellor Ms. Kamali Moghaddam, covered avenues for enhancing political, economic, and trade cooperation.
Minister Abbasi highlighted the significance of increasing trade volumes between the two countries, noting that a surge in mutual imports and exports would substantially boost railway revenue and contribute to Pakistan”s national economy.
‘In line with the Prime Minister’s vision, strengthening regional connectivity and linking the region through rail networks remains our top priority,’ the minister affirmed.
During the engagement, Ambassador Moghaddam extended an official invitation to Minister Abbasi to visit Iran. The minister warmly accepted, stating, ‘It will be an honor for me to visit Iran and perform the sacred Ziyarat.’
Mr. Abbasi added that his visit”s agenda would include a review of the Iranian railway system to explore opportunities for creating modern, efficient, and expanded rail links across the region.
