Pakistan, Iran agree to boost bilateral trade to $10 billion

Pakistan and Iran today pledged to elevate their bilateral trade volume to a substantial ten billion dollars.

This ambitious goal was announced during a joint press conference in Islamabad on Sunday, featuring Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian. Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed, with the intent to formalize them into binding agreements and propel the nations towards achieving their economic objective.

Prime Minister Sharif addressed recent Israeli actions against Iran, labeling them as unwarranted and conveying strong condemnation from both the Pakistani government and its citizens. He reaffirmed Pakistan”s position that Iran possesses the right to utilize nuclear technology for peaceful applications, as outlined in the UN Charter.

The leaders expressed a shared perspective on terrorism, emphasizing their resolve to eliminate all forms of this threat within their respective territories. Turning to the situation in Gaza, Sharif appealed to the global community for a unified call for an immediate ceasefire. He commended Iran”s support for Palestinians facing adversity and reiterated Pakistan”s solidarity with them.

Drawing a parallel between the situations in Gaza and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Prime Minister highlighted the ongoing hardships faced by Kashmiris. He stressed their right to self-determination and pledged Pakistan”s continued advocacy on their behalf. Sharif expressed gratitude for Iran”s support for the Kashmiri cause.

President Pezeshkian conveyed his appreciation to Pakistan for its support during the recent Israeli actions, extending sentiments of unity and brotherhood. He emphasized the deep bond between the two nations, describing Pakistan as more than a neighbor, but a brotherly nation. He underscored the serious joint endeavor to strengthen ties in all areas, exemplified by the agreements and MoUs concluded during the visit.

Both sides reinforced their collaborative commitment to combating terrorism and promoting peace along their shared border, aiming to unlock opportunities for regional progress. They strongly denounced the situation in Gaza, advocating for an immediate end to the violence. They also called for stronger cooperation among Muslim countries.

President Pezeshkian extended an invitation to Prime Minister Sharif to visit Iran to continue discussions and review progress made in bilateral ties. He also expressed his gratitude for the hospitality extended to him and his delegation.
