The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi held a reception today to commemorate Pakistan Day, drawing attendance from political leaders, diplomats, business representatives, media personnel, and members of civil society.
Guests were received at the Chancery lawns by Charge d’Affaires Mr. Saad Ahmad Warraich, who addressed the gathering and reflected on the significance of the Lahore Resolution passed on March 23, 1940. He described it as a defining moment that led to the Pakistan Movement and eventual creation of the country through peaceful and democratic means under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Mr. Warraich remarked that Pakistan has made progress toward building a modern and progressive Islamic welfare state. He highlighted the role of Pakistan’s youth, civil society, and independent media in shaping the country’s direction.
Touching on foreign policy, Mr. Warraich emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to global peace, cooperation, and stability. He stated that Pakistan has always sought friendly relations based on sovereign equality and peaceful coexistence, including with its neighbour India.
Calling for a forward-looking approach in South Asia, he stressed the need for constructive engagement and dialogue aimed at collective progress. He urged that diplomacy must take precedence in addressing regional issues.
Acknowledging the overlap with the festival of Nauroze, Mr. Warraich described the occasion as a symbol of renewal and expressed hope for improved mutual understanding between Pakistan and India. He underlined the importance of addressing shared concerns and resolving longstanding disputes, including Jammu and Kashmir, as a path toward peaceful coexistence.
The event also showcased visual displays of Pakistan’s natural beauty and cultural heritage, including artwork by renowned artists. Guests were served traditional Pakistani cuisine reflecting the country’s culinary traditions.
