Pakistan fully determined to protect, promote minorities’ rights: FO

ISLAMABAD:Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch on Thursday said Pakistan is fully determined to protect and promote minorities’ constitutionally guaranteed rights and freedoms and to foster social harmony, tolerance and mutual respect. In her remarks on Wednesday’s violence in Faisalabad, she said individuals belonging to religious minorities are equal citizens of the state.

Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has strongly condemned the reprehensible incident where churches were targeted and that hurt the sentiments of Christians across the country. She said these acts are illegal and unconstitutional. As a country of law and constitution, Pakistan cannot accept such intolerant and violent acts.

She said Pakistan’s law enforcement authorities took swift action on Wednesday. They have been instructed by the Prime Minister to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice, she added.
