ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has expressed the deepest sympathies and condolences with Afghanistan over the severe flash floods in country’s ten provinces, resulting in loss of precious lives and damage to properties.
In a statement on Thursday, the Foreign Office said the government and the people of Pakistan pray that the Almighty may grant patience and fortitude to the bereaved families to bear the irreparable loss. It said Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has also expressed solidarity with the Afghan brethren in this hour of grief and announced that Pakistan will be sending relief assistance for the affected people.
The Foreign Office said the Prime Minister has also urged the international community to help the already suffering Afghan people to overcome the losses caused by this natural calamity. According to Afghan media reports, nearly 20 people have died in flooding over the past several days. Besides, the flood left dozens of houses destroyed and caused losses of around 100 livestock.
Following heavy rainfall, the floods hit Kandahar, Helmand, Herat, Badakhshan, Takhar, Parwan, Kunduz, Maidan Wardak, Baghlan, Faryab and Jawzjan provinces. However, Baghlan, Parwan and Badghis are the three provinces affected most severely by the recent floods.
