Pakistan and the European Union have agreed to explore enhanced cooperation in circular economy and environmental sustainability, with a particular focus on developing green industrial clusters in Pakistan.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Minister for Climate Change Dr Musadik Malik and Ciobanu Dordea, Director for Circular Economy at the European Commission, held in Geneva. The meeting centred on identifying mutually beneficial opportunities to deepen Pakistan-EU collaboration in sustainable development and economic transformation.

Dr Malik highlighted Pakistan’s strategic interest in expanding its economic ties with the EU and called for a more inclusive global environmental agenda that reflects the challenges and perspectives of developing countries. He also invited European firms to participate in the creation of green industrial zones in Pakistan, positioning them as key drivers of a low-carbon economic transition.

Ciobanu Dordea welcomed Pakistan’s commitment to sustainable development and expressed interest in working jointly on waste management, environmental protection, and circular economy initiatives. He noted that such cooperation could also help strengthen commercial engagement between EU member states and Pakistan’s private sector.

Both sides acknowledged the potential for increased economic integration through green innovation and agreed to examine specific pathways for future collaboration. Follow-up discussions are expected to formalise potential areas of joint projects and investment.
