The Consulate General of Pakistan participated in the 9th Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Summit which took place in Hong Kong from September 11-12, 2024, according to a press release received here on Friday from Hong Kong.
The summit, a premier platform for international cooperation and development under the Belt and Road Initiative, brought together key stakeholders to discuss opportunities for collaboration and connectivity.
As part of the event, the Consulate General of Pakistan set up a prominent counter to showcase Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage, investment opportunities, and economic potential. Visitors had the opportunity to learn more about Pakistan’s unique offerings in trade, investment, tourism, and cultural exchange.
Pakistan’s top envoy to China, Ambassador Khalil Hashmi delivered insightful remarks at the Summit on 12th September 2024.
In his address, Ambassador Hashmi highlighted the strategic importance of the Belt and Road Initiative for Pakistan, emphasizing the country’s commitment to fostering stronger economic ties and enhancing connectivity with partners along the Belt and Road route.
Ambassador Hashmi highlighted how the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) had transformed Pakistan’s investment landscape.
Speaking on the occasion he said with a $62 billion envisaged portfolio, CPEC stands as the flagship BRI project, bringing over 200,000 jobs and adding 8,000 MW of electricity to Pakistan’s power grid.
He said the strategic development of 800 km of road networks and transmission lines speaks to Pakistan’s connectivity prowess.
