Pakistan’s defence forces carried out military strikes inside Afghanistan, inflicting ‘heavy losses’ on terrorist organisations and their logistical bases, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday.
According to an official information by the ministry of foreign affaris today, the action was undertaken in response to repeated acts of terror against Pakistan emanating from Afghan soil, allegedly perpetrated by groups identified as Fitna-al-Khawarij and Fitna-al-Hindustan. The statement also cited ‘unwarranted and provocative actions by the Taliban regime on the night of 26 February’ as a trigger for the military intervention.
The government has framed the cross-border operations as an exercise of its right to self-defence, aimed at ensuring the safety and security of its citizens and stabilising the wider region.
The foreign ministry expressed that its diplomatic efforts and “numerous goodwill gestures” had been misconstrued, resulting in an escalation of militant violence. The statement further alleged that these terrorist attacks occurred with the “active support and backing of the Taliban regime, as well as India.”
A stern warning was issued that any further provocations by the Afghan authorities or attempts by any extremist group to undermine Pakistan”s security would be met with a “measured, decisive and befitting response.”
Islamabad reiterated its determination to “uproot the menace of terrorism” and called upon the Afghan administration to end the impunity with which these outfits continue to operate from its territory.
The ministry also urged the international community to send a clear message to the Taliban, insisting it must not “renege on its obligation to take concrete and verifiable action” against terrorist groups and cease its support for them.
The statement concluded by asserting that Pakistan reserves the right to take all necessary actions to protect its citizens in accordance with international law, including the UN Charter.
