Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, has informed during a six-nation security conference held here on Friday that 22 distinct terrorist organisations are currently active within Afghanistan, positioning his nation as a critical barrier against global threats emanating from the region.
According to an official information today, the high-level meeting in the Polish capital, which focused on illegal immigration, internal security, and counterterrorism, saw ministers from Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Finland, and Lithuania commend Pakistan for its success in reducing illegal migration to Europe by 47 per cent.
As a result of the discussions, all participating nations consented to develop a coordinated strategy to discourage unauthorised migration while promoting legal channels. The agreement includes provisions for official-level employment opportunities in Europe for Pakistani nationals.
To facilitate this new framework, each of the six countries will appoint a dedicated focal person within their respective interior ministries. The ministers also underscored the necessity of strengthening intelligence-sharing and liaison between their law enforcement agencies to tackle shared security challenges.
Minister Naqvi briefed the assembly on Pakistan”s comprehensive strategy against human smuggling, stating that a concerted crackdown on trafficking networks had produced significant results. He expressed confidence that the challenge of illegal migration could be overcome through joint efforts between Pakistan and European nations.
The summit also featured detailed consultations on enhancing cooperation in border security, counter-narcotics, and counterterrorism, with Naqvi specifically briefing his counterparts on the security situation at the Pak-Afghan border.
The Pakistani delegation led by the Interior Minister also included Ambassador to Poland Muhammad Sami, DG FIA Dr. Usman Anwar, DIG Ahsan Younas, Dr. Abid Khan, and Sohail Chaudhry. The European delegations were headed by Marcin Kierwinski of Poland, Igor Taro of Estonia, Richards Kozlovskis of Latvia, Heikki Tamminen of Finland, and Gintaras Aliksandravicius of Lithuania.
