Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, Wednesday, emphasized Pakistan’s dedication to expanding sea-focused collaboration with China, aiming to establish Gwadar as a central regional center for commerce and connectivity.

Presiding over a discussion on the five-year maritime strategy for 2025-2029, Chaudhry detailed the program’s concentration on progressing naval economic advancement, responsible resource management, scientific exploration, and ecological preservation within the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Calling the project crucial for connecting Pakistan with Afghanistan, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, the minister highlighted significant infrastructure ventures such as the enlargement of Gwadar Port, finalizing Free Zone Stage II, and expediting East Bay Expressway Phase II to improve accessibility. Incorporating the New Gwadar International Airport with the harbor was also given precedence to enhance multi-transit links.

The blueprint encourages the implementation of electronic data sharing and intelligent harbor innovations to connect Gwadar with Chinese and international shipping routes. It also encompasses the advancement of port-linked businesses, storage, and refrigeration units to ease regional trade and cargo transfer.

Beyond constructions, the strategy fosters scientific, commercial, and recreational teamwork, including collaborative sea science research hubs, CPEC industrial zones for fishing, boat construction, and water farming, plus sea tourism ventures like voyages and aquatic activities along Balochistan’s coastline.

Learning and sustainability are overarching focuses, with educational collaborations and training exchanges between Pakistani and Chinese organizations to cultivate a skilled workforce in logistics, harbor management, and fisheries. The scheme aligns with Belt and Road’s ‘green energy and ocean’ objectives to balance expansion with environmental safeguards.

Chaudhry stressed that the 2025-2029 plan showcases Pakistan’s commitment to building a robust maritime economy and reinforcing strategic bonds with China, strengthening Pakistan’s sea presence and furthering mutual prosperity within the CPEC structure.
