Pakistan and Romania are exploring avenues for deeper collaboration in trade, logistics, defense, energy, and culture, following a high-level meeting between Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and Romanian Ambassador Dan Stoenescu in Islamabad on Saturday.
Ambassador Stoenescu suggested utilizing Romania’s Constan?a Port as a direct gateway for Pakistani merchandise into Europe through the Black Sea and Danube River, a proposal welcomed by the Minister as a practical measure to diversify Pakistan’s export routes.
Discussions focused on increasing agricultural commerce, meat shipments, and potential partnerships in pharmaceuticals, surgical products, fans, and renewable energy. Romania offered technological support in solar and wind power, assisting Pakistan’s transition to greener energy sources. Recognizing Pakistan’s advantageous position in various industries, Romania conveyed its desire for expanded industrial cooperation.
The Commerce Minister informed the Ambassador about the Pakistani government’s ongoing efforts to lower tariff and non-tariff barriers, creating attractive incentives for Romanian businesses to invest in Pakistan through joint ventures.
Ambassador Stoenescu praised the growth of Pakistan’s IT sector, commending the skills of Pakistani professionals. He mentioned that Romania presents significant opportunities for Pakistani tech experts and expressed a willingness to facilitate these exchanges.
The Commerce Minister underscored the government’s initiatives to support the IT sector, emphasizing Pakistani professionals’ global competitiveness and ability to provide top-tier services to international clientele. Both parties concurred on enhancing cooperation in technology.
Cultural diplomacy and integration were also discussed, with a focus on improving connectivity and easing visa processes. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen bilateral relationships through subsequent meetings and trade fairs.
