Pakistan and ADB Forge Path to Harness Carbon Markets for Green Growth

In a pivotal meeting today, Pakistan and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) strategized a collaborative approach toward leveraging carbon markets as a cornerstone for green economic development.

The discussions, led by Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik and ADB”s Senior Director of Climate Change and Sustainable Development, Mr. Toru Kubo, aimed at aligning Pakistan’s climate strategy with international standards and marketdriven solutions.

The meeting underscored the commitment of both parties to develop a comprehensive climate change strategy, emphasizing carbon credit mobilization and innovative project implementation. Dr. Malik pledged full cooperation and active ministerial involvement, stressing the importance of an impactdriven and transparent approach.

Mr. Kubo expressed ADB’s ongoing support, highlighting its role in facilitating investments in lowcarbon technologies and enhancing Pakistan”s access to global carbon markets. The dialogue also explored integrating Sustainable Development Goals with Pakistan”s carbon finance agenda, positioning climate action as a catalyst for economic advancement and international recognition.

This collaboration marks a significant step toward recognizing climate adaptation and mitigation as crucial economic tools. As global interest in carbon markets grows, Pakistan is set to emerge as a leader in the region by strategically engaging in this dynamic financial landscape.
