North Korea has launched four long-range strategic cruise missiles as part of a military drill designed to demonstrate its ability to conduct a nuclear counterattack.
The tests came as the US and South Korea held a simulated nuclear exercise in Washington aimed at sharpening their response to North Korean challenge.
The missiles were launched from Hamgyong Province towards the sea off the east coast of the Korean Peninsula and they hit a preset target 2,000km away.
