No Shortage of Sugar in Country: Tanveer

Islamabad: Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain has announced that the country has ample sugar stocks, dismissing any claims of a shortage.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister addressed concerns regarding sugar prices, clearly refuting reports suggesting that sugar is being sold at one hundred and eighty rupees per kilogram. He emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring that retail prices do not exceed one hundred and sixty-four rupees per kilogram, while the ex-mill price will be capped at one hundred and fifty-nine rupees. He assured that the federal government, in collaboration with provincial authorities, will enforce strict measures against any attempts to hike sugar prices.

The Minister further highlighted the efforts of the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association, which established stalls at the tehsil level during Ramadan, offering sugar at one hundred and thirty rupees per kilogram. Additionally, he noted that sugar is available at Utility Stores for one hundred and fifty-three rupees per kilogram, providing consumers with affordable options.
