The National Grid Company of Pakistan (NGC) has successfully concluded nine significant power transmission initiatives over the past six months, markedly improving electricity supply and infrastructure nationwide. This extensive work, carried out since November 2025, reflects a strategic push to enhance the country”s energy capabilities.
Key achievements during this period include the establishment of two new grid stations: the 500kV Lahore North and the 220kV Quaid-e-Azam Business Park, according to a report today. These additions have substantially augmented the transmission capacity from southern to northern regions, simultaneously facilitating power delivery to a Special Economic Zone located in Punjab.
Further infrastructure improvements involved the upgrading of six autotransformers, ranging from 160 MVA to 250 MVA, situated at Nokhar, Okara, Yousafwala, and Hyderabad grid stations. These enhancements have led to a considerable increase in system capacity and a notable reduction in load shedding incidents. Additionally, the interconnection of the Ghazi Barotha-Gatti transmission line with the 500kV Allama Iqbal Industrial City (AIIC) grid station in Faisalabad has been finalised.
Other major undertakings brought to fruition include the Nowshera Transmission Line and the 55-kilometre-long 220kV Faisalabad West-Lalian transmission line, both now prepared for energisation. Concurrently, various other grid station and transmission line projects across Pakistan are progressing through their final stages of completion.
Since assuming his role in November 2025, Engr. Altaf Hussain Malik, Managing Director of NGC, has prioritised the prompt delivery of transmission schemes. His extensive tours across Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa involved direct engagement with field teams and comprehensive reviews of ongoing project progress.
Engr. Malik expressed appreciation for the dedicated efforts of NGC teams in bringing these projects to a successful conclusion, commending their diligence, effective collaboration, and stringent adherence to safety protocols. He also underscored the critical importance of ensuring the swift completion of key ongoing projects, notably the 765 kV grid stations at Islamabad West and Mansehra, alongside the Dasu transmission line.
Voicing his unwavering confidence in NGC personnel, the Managing Director instructed them to sustain their current momentum and commitment. He urged continued efforts to strengthen Pakistan”s transmission infrastructure through enhanced teamwork, focused implementation, and professional excellence.
