In a major move to enhance food security and reduce dependence on foreign imports, new rapid growth facilities for wheat and pulses, complemented by a smart glasshouse, were officially inaugurated in the capital today.
Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, who inaugurated the installations, stated that the initiative aligns with crucial national priorities.
These objectives include creating a climate-resilient agricultural sector and increasing the income of farmers, he explained.
The minister emphasised that the faster breeding cycles for essential cereals and pulses are projected to boost local production significantly.
Describing the Smart Glasshouse, Rana Tanveer called it a “future-ready facility” that merges modern plant breeding techniques with digital agriculture and sustainable food production principles.
He further noted that the technology is designed to help address the pressing challenges associated with climate change and promote the efficient use of resources.
The government reaffirmed its full support for expanding such research initiatives and strengthening cooperation with both national and international partners.
