NDMA Issues Weather Alert for Thunderstorms and Hailstorms Across Pakistan

Islamabad: A westerly disturbance is expected to approach the southwestern parts of Balochistan today and may persist till 31st of this month.

According to Radio Pakistan, rainfall, thunderstorm, windstorm, and isolated hailstorm is expected across most parts of the country.

In Punjab, isolated rainfall, thunderstorm, and windstorm is expected in areas including Murree, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Mianwali, and several others from Wednesday to Thursday, with widespread conditions likely from the 28th to the 30th of this month. An isolated hailstorm is also expected during this period.

Similar weather conditions are forecasted for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, affecting regions such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Malakand, Kohistan, and surrounding areas.

Moreover, isolated rainfall and thunderstorm are expected in Gilgit, Astore, Diamir, Ghizer, and other areas from Wednesday to Thursday and again from the 28th to the 30th of March 2026. Azad Kashmir may experience isolated hailstorms, and snowfall is anticipated over hilly areas during this period.

In Balochistan, regions including Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Chaman, and others are likely to experience isolated rainfall, thunderstorm, and windstorm from the 24th to the 25th of this month and again from the 27th to the 29th of March 2026. Isolated hailstorms are also expected.

Sindh regions such as Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, and surrounding areas can expect similar weather conditions from the 25th to the 26th of March and again from the 28th to the 29th of March 2026. An isolated hailstorm is also expected during this period.

The anticipated weather conditions may lead to slippery roads and temporary traffic disruptions. Strong winds and lightning can potentially cause minor damage to weak structures, trees, and power lines, while snowfall in hilly areas may affect road access and travel conditions.

Commuters are advised to drive carefully and adhere to weather advisories. Residents should secure loose objects and avoid staying under trees or near weak structures during thunderstorms. Travelers to northern and hilly areas should check weather and road conditions before planning trips.
