Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has called for a nationwide tree plantation drive to combat the increasing dangers of environmental degradation and climate change. Observing Tree Plantation Day on Monday, the Speaker highlighted the devastating effects of deforestation, such as torrential downpours, land erosion, recurring floods, worsening air quality, and erratic weather conditions. He cautioned that these escalating ecological difficulties demand immediate, collaborative measures to ensure a healthier, more sustainable tomorrow.

Trees are essential for ecological balance, playing a vital role in lessening the impact of climate change and safeguarding the nation’s natural beauty, Sadiq explained. He advocated for a national movement, urging every individual to actively engage in plantation initiatives, making tree planting a collective, continuous endeavor. He emphasized the need for joint efforts by the administration and the public to initiate extensive tree planting campaigns in educational institutions, rural communities, and urban areas, striving for environmental independence.

The Speaker also stressed the significance of nurturing planted saplings. Sustaining their growth and survival through care and observation is equally critical for contributing to a sustainable ecosystem. Deputy Speaker National Assembly, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, shared similar views. He stated that tree planting is not only an ecological necessity but also ingrained in religious teachings and cultural principles. Shah emphasized the importance of greening both urban and rural areas and urged educational institutions, civil society groups, and the public to participate actively in plantation drives. Environmental awareness is crucial today, and collective endeavors can create a greener, more prosperous, and peaceful Pakistan, Shah concluded.
