(NATIONAL) Modi regime continues property seizure in IIOJK: Report

Under Narendra Modi’s leadership, the BJP’s communal Indian government continues its relentless campaign to displace Kashmiris from their homeland by seizing their homes, lands, and other properties in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to a Kashmir Media Service report on Saturday, in its latest crackdown on advocates of freedom in IIOJK, Indian police have confiscated the property of Abdul Rashid Najar, a resident of Naseem Bagh, Sopore in Baramulla district. The seizure, which includes a residential house and over one kanal of land, was carried out under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Since August 2019, the Modi government has pursued a policy of appropriating Kashmiris’ properties based on mere allegations of supporting profreedom activities.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference spokesperson, Advocate Abdul Rashid Mihas, has condemned the ongoing confiscation of land and properties belonging to Kashmiris, describing it as an extension of the BJP government’s settler colonial agenda in the occupied territory. In a statement in Srinagar, Minhas lamented that New Delhi’s brutal actions, including cordon and search operations, house raids, torture, harassment, killings, arrests, and the seizure of Kashmiri properties, have escalated since the abrogation of IIOJK’s special status on August 5, 2019. He asserted that the campaign was part of a deliberate strategy to undermine the Kashmiri people’s legitimate demand for their UNrecognized right to selfdetermination.

Meanwhile, a memorial service was held to honour Nisar Hussain Rathar, APHC leader and patroninchief of TehreekeWahdateIslami, at his residence in the Bemina area of Srinagar. The event was attended by TWI leaders and activists along with a large number of people. Speakers lauded Rathar for his steadfast commitment to Kashmir’s liberation from illegal Indian occupation. They praised his relentless involvement in the freedom movement, even in the face of severe oppression. Nisar Hussain Rathar passed away on August 22, last year in Srinagar.

In a separate incident, a Central Reserve Police Force man, identified as Pawane Kakasahib, died after falling from the rooftop of a Panchayat building near the airport in Srinagar.

In Islamabad today, the APHCAJK chapter held a ceremony to honor three prominent Kashmiri leaders, Advocate Mushtaq Ahmed Wani, Dr Abdul Aala and Sheikh TajammululIslam, on their death anniversaries. The event, presided over by Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi, celebrated the enduring contributions of these leaders to the struggle for the liberation of Jammu and Kashmir from Indian occupation. Among the distinguished attendees were Sardar Yaqoob Khan, former president and prime minister of AJK, Abdur Rashid Turabi, former Amir of JamaateIslami, AJK, and Abdullah Gul. KMS
