The government has declared Wednesday (May 28, 2025), as a public holiday across the country in observance of YoumeTakbeer, commemorating the historic nuclear tests conducted in 1998 that established Pakistan as the first nuclear power in the Muslim world.
YoumeTakbeer marks the day when Pakistan successfully carried out nuclear tests at Chaghi Hills in Balochistan, in response to India’s tests earlier that month. The tests were conducted under the leadership of thenPrime Minister Nawaz Sharif and symbolized the country’s resolve to maintain strategic deterrence and regional stability.
The government offices, educational institutions, banks, and most private organizations will remain closed tomorrow. National ceremonies and events will take place across major cities, including Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi, to pay tribute to the scientists, engineers, and leadership behind the country’s nuclear program.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued a statement calling YoumeTakbeer a reminder of Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to national defense and sovereignty. ‘This day reflects the unity, courage, and resilience of our nation,’ the statement read.
Security has been heightened in major urban centers ahead of the commemorations, with law enforcement agencies put on high alert to ensure peaceful observance of the day.
Television channels will air special transmissions, documentaries, and talk shows, reflecting on the significance of Pakistan’s nuclear capability and the geopolitical dynamics of the region.
YoumeTakbeer is not just a celebration of military strength, but also a call for peace, responsibility, and national solidarity, officials have emphasized.
