The 10th meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Law and Justice was held here at Parliament House on Wednesday, under the chairmanship of MNA Chaudhry Mahmood Bashir Virk.

A key item discussed was the Civil Servants (Amendment) Bill, 2025. After indepth deliberations, the committee recommended-with a majority vote-that the bill be passed by the National Assembly in its present form.

However, dissenting notes with proposed amendments were submitted by MNAs Changaze Ahmad Khan, Ali Muhammad Khan, Umair Khan Niazi, Aliya Kamran, Sohail Sultan, and Sardar Muhammad Latif Khan Khosa.

The committee also took up the QanuneShahadat (Amendment) Bill, 2025, introduced by MNA Shazia Marri. While acknowledging the importance of the proposed legal revisions, the committee opted to defer the bill to its next meeting.

This decision aims to provide the Ministry of Law and Justice adequate time to submit a comparative analysis of similar legal provisions in selected Commonwealth countries, emphasizing international best practices and legal harmonization.

During discussions, the Law Ministry underscored that the proposed amendments would have nationwide applicability. Consequently, the committee stressed the necessity of soliciting feedback from all provincial governments to ensure inclusivity and representation of regional perspectives.

It was recommended that the Ministry formally seek written input from all four provinces ahead of the next meeting. Lastly, the committee deferred consideration of The Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2025 (pertaining to Article 59), sponsored by MNA Naveed Aamir, due to the mover’s absence.
