Secretary General of the Pakistan Business Forum (PBF) Balochistan, Maqbool Alam Noori, on Monday urged the Government of Balochistan to swiftly consider adopting molten salt solar power plants to tackle the province’s acute power shortage.
During discussions with a delegation from the Chaman Chamber of Commerce (CCCI), Noori underscored the severe impact of ongoing power outages on industries and households in the region. He pointed out that these disruptions are stalling economic progress and imposing hardships on citizens.
Noori proposed that Balochistan’s abundant sunshine, which averages over seven hours daily, makes it an ideal candidate for solar power plants utilizing molten salt technology. He explained that this system employs molten salt for both heat transfer and thermal energy storage, facilitating 24hour power generation.
The potential benefits of adopting this technology were highlighted by Noori, who noted that it could establish a steady power supply for industries, boost investments and job creation, and enhance electricity reliability for homes, thereby improving residents’ quality of life.
Advocating for this sustainable energy solution, PBF views it as essential for the economic growth and prosperity of Balochistan. Noori called on the government to prioritize this innovative approach to energy security and to explore publicprivate partnerships to accelerate project implementation.
