Former Pakistan cricket team captain and the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Technical Committee, Misbah-ul-Haq, disclosed that they recommended the team management to include mystery spinner, Abrar Ahmed in the World Cup 2023 squad.
Misbah said, “Our [cricket committee] viewpoint was to include a mystery spinner, especially when you are playing with different teams since it is not a series. Most of them would be playing for the first time.”
He added, “So, we suggested keeping Abrar Ahmed in the squad, keeping in mind, that our spin bowling is not in good form and didn’t do well in the Asia Cup.”
It must be noted that Abrar Ahmed is part of the squad as one of the three traveling reserves. The other two reserve players include Zaman Khan and Mohammad Haris.
Furthermore, Misbah-ul-Haq mentioned that it was his and Hafeez’s opinion, and the final decision had to be made by the team management and Captain Babar Azam.
Team management decided to include Usama Mir, who was part of the playing XI in the last two games against Australia and Afghanistan, but he failed to perform well in these two crucial games.
Meanwhile, the Green Shirts are set to face off in their next crucial game against South Africa on 27 October in the same venue, Chennai, which will be a tough and must-win game for Pakistan.
