The Minorities Peoples Alliance Pakistan (MPAP) has demanded the right for minorities to elect their own political representatives. In a press conference, MPAP Chairman Yaqoob Sharif Gul criticized the current system where majority parties select minority representatives. He stated that minorities should have the democratic freedom to choose their own leaders. The party’s Patron-in-Chief Saleem Khursheed Khokhar, Senior Vice Chairman Asif Nazir, and Chief Organizer Riyasat Shahid also supported this idea, saying that imposing representatives on minority communities is unacceptable.

The MPAP leaders questioned the suppression of the voices of an estimated eight to nine million minority voters. Deputy Chief Organizer Sultan Simon, Secretary General Shahzad Bashir Bhatti, Spokesperson Yousuf Ghori, and Information Secretary Zeeshan Azeem Gul were also present. Provincial leadership also participated, representing various regions across Pakistan, including Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Punjab, Sindh, and Karachi.

The alliance advocated for direct elections, a five percent reserved seats quota for minority women, and the establishment of a “Minority Ideological Council” to protect constitutional and ideological minority rights. The gathering concluded with the social media cell’s slogan “My vote, my will, respect for minorities,” which is gaining popularity as a public movement.
