Ministry of Maritime Affairs Pakistan all set to host IMO Workshop on Nov 13-15

ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Maritime Affairs Pakistan is all set to host the “IMO Workshop under Integrated Technical Cooperation Program for Implementation of the Hong Kong Convention, Pakistan 2023,” scheduled for November 13 to November 15 in Karachi.

This seminar will prove to be a pivotal moment for Pakistan’s commitment to sustainable ship recycling and maritime excellence, says an official statement issued here on Friday.

The seminar will focus on Pakistan’s aspiration to become a signatory to the Hong Kong Convention, ushering in a new era for the country’s maritime industry.

Central to the discussions is the requirement for ships designated for recycling to carry specific inventories of hazardous materials, tailored to the unique characteristics of each vessel.

This critical step underscores Pakistan’s dedication to safe and environmentally sound ship recycling practices. Chaired by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, V.

Admiral (retd) Iftikhar Ahmad Rao, this event will feature esteemed Chief Guests and speakers, including Per Albert Ilsaas, Ambassador of Norway to Pakistan, Country Director ILO Mr Geir Thomas Tonstol and Mr Jun Sun from the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

As Pakistan paves the way for sustainable ship recycling practices, this seminar offers a platform for stakeholders to engage in meaningful dialogue, shape industry standards, and set a course for a more sustainable maritime future.
