Minister calls for mitigating health-related risks of heat wave to school students

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Education and Professional Training Rana Tanveer Hussain has stressed the need to implement the short-term and long-term measures to mitigate the health-related risks of heat wave to the school going children.

Chairing an Inter-Provincial Education Ministers conference here in Islamabad on Tuesday, he said proactive measures should be taken to protect young students from heat wave. The Minister said that Federal Board for Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) has been directed to make alternate arrangements for electricity and water in examination centres. Rana Tanveer said that an awareness campaign regarding the heat wave has already been launched by the Ministry where teachers, students and parents are the primary audience.

He suggested developing a separate curriculum to create awareness among students about climate change in Pakistan. He also highlighted the issue of out of school children and advised all the provinces to create strategic plans in this connection. The Minister was briefed about the measures taken by the provinces to address the issue of heat wave.
