Meta’s Director for Central Asia Meets Federal IT Minister, Discusses Partnership

Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, has expressed interest in partnering with Pakistan on artificial intelligence (AI) development and digital literacy training. A delegation led by Sarim Aziz, Meta’s Director of Public Policy for South and Central Asia, met with Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Syed Amin Ul Haque, to discuss potential collaboration.

Minister Haque highlighted the government’s commitment to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s “Digital Pakistan” vision, emphasizing weekly meetings on a cashless economy and ongoing efforts to improve public services through technological advancements. She stressed the importance of equipping youth with digital skills and highlighted the significance of AI, particularly its application in Urdu language models, for the country’s future.

Meta provided a briefing on its Large Language Model Meta AI (LLaMA) and generative AI technologies. Aziz expressed the company’s desire to partner with Pakistan in these areas. Haque concluded the meeting by emphasizing the importance of publicprivate partnerships in driving digital progress.
