KARACHI:Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab said on Tuesday that his first priority is to stabilize KMC financially, as the cleaning of drains is the topmost challenge at this time; however, measures should be taken to deal with the monsoon rains. In the next 100 days, the citizens will see a change, he said while presiding over a meeting of departmental heads after reaching the KMC head office. Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad and Municipal Commissioner KMC Syed Afzal Zaidi were also present.
Earlier, Wahab and Salman visited the mausoleum of Quaid-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah where they laid floral wreath and offered fateha. Speaking to the media at Mazar-e-Quaid, Wahab said that they would take everyone onboard to improve the city. PPP has always made service to the people as its motto, so construction and development works will be done in consultation with all stakeholders. The Mayor Karachi received a warm welcome on his arrival at the head KMC office. The officers and other employees of KMC greeted and showered rose petals.
While addressing the meeting of departmental heads of KMC, Wahab said that in order to improve the basic infrastructure of the city, maintenance of roads and provision of street lights wouls be ensured on priority basis, while KMC hospitals would be improved so that citizens could get proper medical facilities. Mayor Karachi said that various projects would be started under public-private partnership for the improvement of the city so that the private sector could be included in the works of construction and development of the city.
He said that Karachi would be made a clean and green city, and under this objective, wall chalking and plastic bags would be completely banned in the city and violation of this law will not be tolerated. One window operation will be started to provide services and other facilities. On this occasion, Deputy Mayor said that we thank the citizens of Karachi for the trust they have shown in them.
