The Pakistan Stock Exchange experienced a significant downturn on Monday, as both the KSE-30 and KSE-100 indices reported substantial declines, falling by 1.49% and 1.22% respectively. The sharp decrease reflects a challenging trading day with widespread losses across the board.
According to the daily stock market report, 313 companies in the ready market recorded losses, overshadowing the 93 gainers. The future market also showed a similar pattern with 275 decliners and only 59 advancing firms. The KSE-30 index fell by 529.01 points, closing at 35,033.68, while the KSE-100 index dropped by 1,405.45 points, ending the day at 114,063.90.
Trade turnover in the regular market decreased to 423.9 million shares from the previous session’s 471 million shares. The traded value also saw a downturn, falling from 27.3 billion PKR to 26.4 billion PKR. Market capitalization took a hit as well, reducing to 13.89 trillion PKR from 14.09 trillion PKR.
In the ready market, Bank of Punjab led the turnover with over 23.7 million shares traded, although it closed lower at 9.30 PKR. Power Cement and WorldCall Telecom also saw heavy trading but ended the day with losses. Among the gainers, PIA Holding Company Limited and Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited posted notable increases in their closing rates.
Sazgar Engineering Works Limited and Sapphire Textile Mills Limited were among the top decliners, as both companies saw their rates decrease significantly by 50.25 PKR and 47.20 PKR, respectively.
