LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) has given interim relief to the electricity consumers on quarterly adjustment tariffs and allowed the petitioners cum power users to submit their bills after deducting the amount of the adjustment tariff.

According to a report, citizen Sher Ali and some other consumers of electricity approached the court against the quarterly adjustment tariff added to the electricity bills.

Justice Shahid Waheed heard the petitions while Barrister Taimur Mateen appeared on behalf of the petitioners and challenged the quarterly adjustment tariff included in the electricity bills. Barrister Taimur argued that the NEPRA fixed the quarterly adjustment tariff in the electricity bills on June 16, 2022, and August 12, 2022, under Section 31 of the authority without fulfilling the legal requirements of sub-clause 7 of the same section.

The court sought a response from the federal government, the Ministry of Energy, and other electricity distribution companies. The court directed to combine all the similar applications and set them for a hearing on September 14.
