Khan, who passed away on October 22, 2025, was remembered as a visionary whose influence spanned nearly three decades at the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), according to a statement today.
During a condolence reference at the Institute of Policy Studies, prominent figures including IPS Chairman Khalid Rahman, Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Usman Shaukat, and Gallup Pakistan founder Prof Dr Ijaz Shafi Gilani shared their reflections. Family members, colleagues, and admirers paid homage to a man they described as an inspiring figure of principle and kindness.
For almost 30 years, Major Amanullah was a pivotal figure at IPS, serving on its National Academic Council, Board of Governors, and other key committees. His strategic vision was crucial in directing the institute”s research on regional cooperation with nations like China, Turkey, and Iran, as well as on critical issues including energy, Afghanistan, and technology development.
His impactful career extended into the financial and industrial sectors. He served as the president of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry from 1991 to 1992 and made history as the first president of the Islamabad Stock Exchange, a position he held from 1989 to 1994, reflecting his commitment to economic growth.
Beyond his corporate and policy engagements, Major Amanullah was deeply committed to humanitarian causes. As chairman of Akhuwat’s Steering Committee, he was instrumental in establishing Islamic microfinance initiatives and community uplift programs throughout northern Pakistan.
Speakers universally lauded his exemplary character, remembering him as a man of conviction, profound humility, and remarkable foresight. His sons, Ghufran and Jibran Amanullah, were among those who recalled a life that seamlessly blended professional discipline with deep compassion.
